This self-paced eLearning course was developed as part of an eLearning Challenge hosted by The eLearning Designer’s Academy. The objective was to create an engaging learning experience for managers to strengthen their ability to deliver constructive feedback during performance reviews and to enhance goal-setting strategies that support the company’s 2025 sales growth initiatives.
I sourced, created, and edited all course graphics using a combination of free image websites and the stock images and shapes available in Microsoft PowerPoint, ensuring a cohesive and professional visual design.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to identify the "sandwich" feedback approach, understand the importance of delivering feedback effectively, and recognize how this technique can improve employee engagement and performance.
To design this course on giving constructive feedback using the sandwich method, I started by researching best practices and real-world examples of how the technique is used effectively in the workplace. I then created a course outline in Microsoft Word to map out the learner experience and define the key learning objectives.
As I planned the content, I decided to build the course around a relatable scenario featuring Lily, a sales manager preparing for upcoming performance reviews. To bring the training to life and make it more engaging, I introduced two team members, Andrew, a sales associate who’s been struggling with adopting new digital sales strategies, and Marilyn, another associate who recently missed a critical deadline for submitting a proposal to a high-value client.
These characters helped create realistic, scenario-based interactions that allow learners to practice delivering feedback in a way that’s both constructive and supportive. The outline served as a blueprint to guide content development and keep everything aligned with the course objectives.
Once the course outline was finalized, I began developing the materials in Articulate Storyline 360. I focused on creating an engaging and practical learning experience by using a mix of scenario-based learning, storytelling, and interactive decision-making. I followed the ADDIE model to guide the process and ensure each element of the course aligned with the learning objectives.
The course centers around Lily, a sales manager preparing for performance reviews. Learners follow her as she navigates real-world conversations with team members like Andrew, who’s having trouble with digital adoption strategies, and Marilyn, who missed a key deadline. These scenarios were designed to feel authentic and give learners a chance to apply the sandwich feedback method in context.
To make the course visually engaging and accessible, I included multimedia elements like audio narration, custom graphics, closed captions, and interactive features. I also built in assessments, such as multiple-choice questions and reflection prompts, to reinforce key concepts and provide instant feedback.
